Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Ok liverpool deserved to win but a goal in the 47th? Minute and a goal 2 yards offside did for us. Arnie missed 2.glorious chances and Antonio on another day could have done better. Needed a break didnt get one and they aint who we're competing against. Think we'll do ok tbf. Worried Noble was treading water would.have taken him off not rice.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Jesus we’ve got some spastic supporters these days Liverpool minus all the players they bought were a mo Salah injury away from winning the champions league....they did that to city three fucking times last season and their top scorer scored forty fucking four goals...
We had five new players starting three of who had never played in the prem
I think I’ll probably wait a few weeks before I start making judgements

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
I saw no positives today which is more worrying, defence is shit and no def midfielder, we all knew it why don’t they

Ag ag....big Sam to get an emergency call in November.
100m spent, new world class manager and same old shit.
You would expect to see some signs of improvement even at this early stage.
Problem for me is that despite all the money spent we haven't addressed the DM area and have not improved our GK options.
Hoping today was a blip. It's okay saying it will take time but the reality is he only has about 2-3 months to make his mark before the pressure is on and questions will start to be asked.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
There is definately an element of players needing to settle.
That said the midfield was missing a ball winner, our attack looked short of bodies and we never attacked at pace which is where they can be caught out as they press so high up the pitch.
Noble had a bad day, Rice will need to grow into the role and Wilshere shows he is willing to run with the ball but you have to give him options to pass to.
Playing Masuaku at left back will cost us lots of goals. He has no defensive awareness. Surely Zabeleta would be better than him. Lets see where we are after 5 or 6 games. Hopefully we are somewhere in the middle of the table looking upwards.

While keeping it in perspective, they always tank us, is it too early to confirm our new signings have relegation clauses and that somebody has big Sam's mobile number

Mike.

Agree with all of that. Cant judge us on today, they are going to be very hard to play against at Anfield. And Antonio is little more than a carthorse.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
I agree with the points about next week showing us where we truly are. we won't play a quicker or fitter team than livepool all season but we still have to improve a lot on what we showed today. if we can get antonio out the door, do it

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Yep agree , Noble , Kouyate, Obiang .... We arguably have upgraded Noble with Wilshire if we consider the two for linking up defence and midfield.

We bought Sanchez last minute and he might be a bit better defensively than Kouyate in midfield. We might need Obiang to really step up but past evidence suggests not :-(

But where are the "legs", the power and mobility? Games against the big boys you need it.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
This was always a difficult game which we were going to lose as they are so much better than us but a 1-0 or 2-1 would have been acceptable.
In reality it could have been six so there's little sign of progress given how much we've spent.in this window.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
We was exploited against shit teams pre season but didn't fix it. Not replacing Noble & Kouyate was criminal.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Pressing further up the field helps the defence. Sitting back, like we did, invites all their players. It's not fucking rocket science. We've spent lots of money, but need to play to their strengths.

Takashi Miike 5:18 Sun Aug 12

Can't agree with that, his touch is what makes him dangerous going forward.

His positioning seems questionable at time though.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Perspective?

There is no perspective in my book when you swallow 4 goals.

Forget the West ham way it is stupid and does not work today unless you are a settled team and playing it against the right team, and that is the truth, Pelegrini has to set up a defence that knows what it's doing before anything else start at the back.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
Liverpool are good.
Noble looks back before he passes.
Fredericks is a wing back at best.
Arnie needs help up top.
Masuaku is always out of position.
Anderson won't be the saviour in this formation.
Managers always buy attackers and defenders cos they think Noble is a brilliant def-mid.
Rice is a better defender.
3-5-2 will be used soon.
Yarmalenko looks decent.
Antonio is awful, doesn't have a brain and falls over all the time.
We have only played 1 game.

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....

Was you watching the same game? His positional sense time and time again was terrible. Played far to narrow (which in fairness to him Frederick’s did for their first goal) players ran of him all the time (Salah for first goal) and gave the call away throughout the game.

Cresswell will be a regular this season. I’d have far rather played Zabaleta or Rice as a left back

Pellegrini's mistakes...
Tactics...high line failed...
Selection...Rice...Antonio...
Transfers...Not getting Thiago Maia...
Is Wilshere worth it...
Bottom...

Re: Try and put it into perspective.....
I’ve been saying for ages that it might take months for some of these players to get used to the Premier League. Plus we’ll need time to gel as a team.

It could be months before we see this team playing at something like potential, so people had better calm themselves down and settle in for the long haul.

trouble is if we need to drop 2 of wilshere noble and rice from the centre, (lets assume it wont be jack)
